vaccines to theories of the beginning and progression of life on Earth. Here
are some of the famous biologists that have made significant contributions to
various areas of life.
2. Anton van
Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723), nationality: Dutch. Known for: The Father of
Microbiology. Antoine Philips van Leeuwenhoek was born in Delft, Netherlands in
1632. His interest in lensmaking (создание оптических стекол) and curiosity led him to be the first to observe
single cell organisms. He is considered a biologist and microscopist, which has
earned him the distinction of being the father of microbiology.
3. Robert Hooke (1635-1703),
nationality: English. Known for: Coined (создал)
the term “cell”. Born on 1635 in the Isle of Wight, England, Robert Hooke
received his higher education at Oxford University where he studied physics and
chemistry. His work included the application what is known today as Hooke’s
law, his use of microscopy, and for the discovery of the “cell” in 1665 using
cork and a microscope.
4. Some of their
discoveries have helped cure diseases, perform medical procedures, and classify
animals. Others have formed the basis of the medical profession as we know it
today. The many discoveries have improved not only our understanding of history
